Remember Hugh Grants blue eyes in the film Notting Hill? Discover Notting Hill, one of London most beautiful places and home to the most quintessentially British rom com. It is most famous as the location for Hogwarts in Harry Potter. Alnwick Castle is not only one of the largest inhabited castles in England and 1,000 years old, but it is also something of a movie star in its own right!
This picturesque castle is one of the most iconic in Britain, having made appearances in popular films and television shows such as Elizabeth, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, the Downton Abbey Christmas special, and its most famous role as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the first two Harry Potter films.
It was on the castle grounds that Harry had his first Quidditch lesson (the castle now hosts broomstick training throughout the summer months) and the spot where the Weasleys flying Ford Anglia crash landed on the first day of school.
Aside from its forays on the big and small screens, the magnificent castle also has a long and rich history. It was erected around 1096 and is located in the English county of Northumberland. Today it is home to the Duke of Northumberland and his family and is the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle.

As far as castles go, it is difficult to imagine a more remote and dramatic location than Dunnottar. Perhaps with the most impenetrable position of all Scottish castles, this one sits on top of its own cliff peninsula on the road to Aberdeen, defended on all sides by the forces of nature. It is of course also famous for inspiring Princess Meridas family home in Disney Pixars Brave and doubled for Elsinore in Franco Zeffirellis Hamlet!
Its location ranks as one of the most dramatic anywhere and you get the chance to feast your eyes on some of the most striking coastlines in Scotland. Wind swept grassland, plunging cliffs, and thrashing waves all come together in one very romantic backdrop.
Dunnottar also offers an insight into castle defenses and has a good dose of legends and mysteries. Whigs Vault will make your hair stand on end as will the church (now in ruins) torched by William Wallace.
Although Dunnottar is increasing in popularity, it is not one of the busier Scottish castles. Plus, its size means you can easily get away from the crowds and enjoy its unique location almost on your own. It is also a perfect stop off on the Angus Coastal Route, a truly scenic Scottish road trip.
4. Inception, Paris, France
When you think of Paris, France, you automatically think of the Eiffel Tower. And why would not you? It is beautiful, and it is magnificent, but we have all seen it a thousand times in all the postcards, posters, merchandise and news photos since we were kids. But there is something really cool standing just a stones throw from the Eiffel: the Inception bridge.
Pont de Bir Hakeim is a bridge crossing the Seine River in Paris. Built over a hundred years ago and loyally serves as a river crossing point to the locals, but in 2010 it became a true film star. That is when Christopher Nolan arrived with his crew, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, and Joseph Gordon Levitt.
In 2010 something magical happened on this bridge. In the opening scenes, Ellen Pages character Ariadne learns how to build dreams.
5. Famous Film Places In Europe: La Vita e bella, Arezzo, Italy
This movie still brings a tear to my eye when I even think about it. I watched this famous film at school many years ago, and it has never left my memory. This is why I have personally gone to see this famous film spot myself! Roberto Benignis 1997 Oscar winning La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful) is a masterpiece! Set in WWII, it tells the story of a Jewish Italian man named Guido Orefice. He meets and falls in love with the beautiful Dora and they have a son, Giosue, together.
The story is about Guidos family and how their lives get turned upside down when they are taken to a concentration camp. While there, in order to shelter his son from the horrors of his surroundings, Guido weaves an elaborate story. Their time in the camp is merely a game. Filmed across several sets the centerpiece of the beginning of the film, however, is the lovely Tuscan city of Arezzo.
